UTTARAKHAND TUNNEL RESCUE WORK REACHES LAST LEG

UTTARAKHAND TUNNEL RESCUE : The rescue operations on the Silkyara Bend – Barkot tunnel potion collapse to evacuate the 41 trapped

workers has reached its last leg. After more than 10 days of round-the-clock exertion the rescue and

relief team comprising different organizations and specialists has announced that the challenge of

drilling is nearly over. Yesterday through the night they hit an obstacle as they came upon portions of

construction steel embedded in the debris. However, using skill and technology they managed to

remove them and recommence the drilling.

DG NDRF, Atul Karwal said, " Auger machine has started operating again. We are estimating to send 2-3

pipes of 6 meters inside. Hopefully, by the end of the day, if we do not get any obstacles, the rescue

operation will be completed."

Medical aid with equipped ambulances and doctors has been deployed at the site for the workers once

they are evacuated.

The tunnel collapse occurred on November 12, 2023, in the Uttarkashi district of the Northern state of

Uttarakhand. A portion of the Silkyara Bend – Barkot tunnel that is currently under construction

collapsed trapping 41 workers inside.

NHAI has announced a safety audit enlisting the specialization of KRCL and DMRC for all the 29 under-

construction projects in the nation following the incident of the Uttarkashi tunnel collapse. The
