West Bengal Minister of state for labour,Jakir Hossain were injured after crude bombs were hurled at him in Murshidabad on Wednesday.
Unidentified attackers hurled crude bombs at Jakir Hossain, while his convoy was on way to Nimtita railway station in Jangipur city of Murshidabad district of West Bengal Wednesday night . The incident took place under the Suti police station area.
Hossain suffered serious injuries on his leg and at least two other persons who were with him were also injured in the attack.
“It is not clear who has attacked him. I have asked the administration to conduct a thorough probe into the incident and find out who is responsible,” said Abu Taher Khan, TMC’s Murshidabad district president.
“The minister was attacked because he was opposed to cow smuggling and corruption in the district. He had opposed the people involved in these activities. This could be the reason why he was targeted today. The law and order situation has hit an all-time low in the state,” said Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, State Congress president and Berhampore Lok Sabha MP.
TMC leader and State Minister Maloy Ghatak said Hossain was a very popular leader in Murshidabad.
“He has successfully conducted rallies where thousands of people participated. It’s the work of our political rivals. They wanted to kill Jakir,” Ghatak.
BJP national general secretary in-charge of West Bengal Kailash Vijayvargiya and the party’s state president Dilip Ghosh strongly condemned the attack.
“I strongly condemn the crude bomb attack on TMC minister Jakir Hossain at Nimtita railway station, Murshidabad. I pray for speedy recovery of the injured,” Vijayvargiya tweeted.
“This shows that West Bengal is not safe even for ministers. The law and order has totally failed,” Dilip Ghosh said.
“I condemn the dastardly bomb attack at Nimtita Railway Station in West Bengal. My prayers are for the quick recovery of the injured,” Union Railway Minister ,Piyush Goyal tweeted.
