Iran’s Ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, affirmed Tehran’s commitment to resolving challenges for India-flagged vessels stranded near the Strait of Hormuz amid escalating West Asia tensions
Speaking to reporters, Fathali highlighted the strong bilateral ties between the two nations and expressed optimism that maritime obstacles would be cleared swiftly, with at least one vessel already resuming its journey.
The diplomatic push follows high-level interventions: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on March 12, while External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has engaged Iranian leaders multiple times, securing safe passage assurances for Indian ships carrying crew members.
These efforts underscore India’s delicate balancing act in the Iran-US standoff, prioritizing crew safety and trade continuity through the vital chokepoint that handles 20% of global oil flows. As hostilities intensify post-US strikes on Kharg Island, Fathali’s remarks signal pragmatic cooperation despite broader conflicts.
