Amit Shah Slams Mamata Banerjee, Highlights BJP Surge Ahead of West Bengal Polls

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a sharp political attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee while addressing a public event ahead of the crucial elections in West Bengal.

Responding to a question about what has changed between the last and the upcoming Bengal elections, Shah remarked, “This time, the leg isn’t broken, and secondly, there is no coronavirus,” in an apparent dig at Banerjee.

Highlighting the Bharatiya Janata Party’s steady growth in the state, Shah presented comparative electoral data:

2014 Lok Sabha Elections: 17% vote share, 2 seats
2019 Lok Sabha Elections: 41% vote share, 18 seats

He emphasized that the BJP has now established a strong voter base of around 40% in Bengal.
In the Assembly elections:

2016 Vidhan Sabha Elections: 10% vote share, 3 seats

2021 Vidhan Sabha Elections: 38% vote share, 77 seats

Shah stated that these figures reflect the BJP’s rapid expansion and increasing public support across the state.

With elections now announced, Shah asserted that BJP workers, under the state leadership, are committed to forming the next government.

He described the upcoming polls as “very important, even for national security,” adding that the election is about “liberation from fear and building trust among the people of Bengal.”

Making a key promise, Shah said that if voted to power, a BJP government in Bengal would act swiftly on border security:
“On May 4, the BJP government will be formed in West Bengal, and within 45 days, land required for fencing the border will be provided… we will stop infiltration.”

The statement signals a strong focus on national security and illegal infiltration as central themes in BJP’s Bengal campaign.
