Vijay-Led Government Passes Floor Test in Tamil Nadu Assembly

The C. Joseph Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government successfully won the trust vote in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Wednesday, reaffirming its majority in the House with support from key political allies and independent legislators.

As soon as the Assembly session commenced, Chief Minister Vijay moved the vote of confidence motion. MLAs from various parties participated in the debate before voting took place under the supervision of Speaker J. C. D. Prabhakar.

Following division-wise voting, the Speaker announced that the resolution had been passed with 144 MLAs voting in favour of the government, while 22 members opposed the motion. Five MLAs, including members from the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) and the Bharatiya Janata Party, remained neutral during the vote.

The government received support from parties including the Indian National Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and the rebel faction of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) led by senior leaders S. P. Velumani and C. Ve. Shanmugam.

Meanwhile, the main opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) staged a walkout ahead of the voting process in protest against the proceedings.

Independent MLA S. Kamaraj, who was expelled from the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazagam (AMMK), also voted in favour of the government.
