Prabhsimran and Shreyas Iyer Power Punjab to Top of Table; De Kock’s Century in Vain

In a clinical display of power-hitting and tactical bowling, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) dismantled Mumbai Indians (MI) by 7 wickets in Match 24 of IPL 2026. Chasing a formidable target of 196, PBKS reached the finish line with 21 balls to spare, catapulting themselves to the No. 1 spot on the points table.

The Chase: Prabhsimran and Iyer’s Masterclass
Punjab’s chase began with a slight stumble as mystery spinner Allah Ghazanfar dismissed openers Priyansh Arya (15) and Cooper Connolly (17) early. However, any hopes of a Mumbai comeback were swiftly extinguished by a blistering 139-run partnership between Prabhsimran Singh and captain Shreyas Iyer.

Prabhsimran Singh: The opener played the innings of his life, smashing an unbeaten 80 off just 39 balls (11 fours, 2 sixes).

Shreyas Iyer: Leading from the front, Iyer notched his third consecutive fifty, scoring 66 off 35 balls before falling late in the chase.

Efficiency: The duo exploited the Wankhede dew, reaching 198/3 in a mere 16.3 overs.

Mumbai Indians: De Kock’s Lone Warrior Act

Earlier in the evening, after being put in to bat, MI suffered a nightmare start. Arshdeep Singh (3/22) produced a masterclass in swing bowling, removing Ryan Rickelton and the dangerous Suryakumar Yadav for a duck within the first three overs.

The rescue act came from Quinton de Kock, who, replacing the injured Rohit Sharma, carried his bat for a magnificent 112 off 60 balls*. He was ably supported by Naman Dhir, whose gritty 50 off 31 balls helped MI recover from 15/2 to a competitive 195/6. Despite the massive total, MI’s bowling unit—including a wicketless Jasprit Bumrah—struggled to contain the PBKS onslaught.

Arshdeep Singh is the Player of the Match.

Points Table Impact
With this victory, Punjab Kings remain the only unbeaten team this season, moving to 9 points from 5 matches. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians languish at the bottom half of the table (9th position) with just one win from five games.
