Union Home Minister Amit Shah has strongly criticized the Opposition parties in the Lok Sabha following the debate on the Constitution Amendment Bill related to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, which seeks to provide 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies.

Speaking on the developments in the House, Amit Shah said that a “very strange scene” unfolded as parties including the Congress, TMC, DMK, and Samajwadi Party allegedly did not support the passage of the crucial legislation. He termed the situation “reprehensible” and “beyond imagination,” stating that the bill aimed at strengthening women’s representation was not allowed to move forward.
He further remarked that women across the country would be deprived of their rightful 33% reservation in legislatures due to this outcome. Shah also accused the Opposition of repeatedly acting against what he described as the interests of women and the nation.
In his remarks, he warned that this issue would have wider political consequences, suggesting that the Opposition would face strong reactions from women voters in upcoming elections, including the 2029 Lok Sabha polls and beyond.
The debate over the women’s reservation bill continues to draw sharp political reactions across party lines.
