Trump Claims Iran in Financial Freefall as Strait of Hormuz Pressure Mounts

U.S. President Donald Trump claimed Iran is facing severe financial distress, alleging the country is losing $500 million per day amid the ongoing crisis surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Tehran wants the crucial maritime corridor reopened immediately as economic pressure mounts.

“Iran is collapsing financially! They want the Strait of Hormuz opened immediately — starving for cash!” Trump wrote, adding that Iran’s military and police were complaining of delayed payments, ending the post with “SOS!!!”

Trump’s remarks come amid heightened tensions over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil chokepoint through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply moves. His comments are likely to intensify debate over the geopolitical and economic implications of the ongoing maritime standoff.

The statement has also fueled speculation over whether mounting financial pressure could push Tehran toward negotiations, even as uncertainty over regional security and energy markets continues.
