Union Home Minister Amit Shah sharpened the political battle in West Bengal ahead of the Assembly elections, accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of obstructing border fencing and pledging swift action if the BJP comes to power in the state.
Addressing a political rally, Shah claimed the Border Security Force requires 600 acres of land to complete fencing along the international border, but alleged the state government has not provided the required land. He asserted that a BJP government would ensure the border is fully fenced within 45 days.
Shah also raised concerns over infiltration, alleging infiltrators are taking away jobs, using resources meant for the poor, and posing a threat to India’s internal security. He said the BJP would identify and remove illegal infiltrators from Bengal despite what he described as attempts by Mamata Banerjee to protect them.
His remarks place border security and illegal infiltration at the center of the election campaign, adding another major flashpoint to the high-stakes West Bengal political contest.
