India–New Zealand FTA to Unlock Trade Growth; Piyush Goyal Launches ‘Agra: World Capital of Footwear’ Campaign

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted a major step forward in India’s global trade strategy during an industry interaction in Agra, alongside New Zealand’s Minister for Trade and Investment Todd McClay.

The engagement brought together leaders from key sectors including leather and footwear, AYUSH, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, light engineering, and sports goods—showcasing Agra’s growing importance as a manufacturing and export hub.

During the visit, Goyal also launched the ‘Agra: World Capital of Footwear’ brand campaign, aimed at elevating the city’s global identity. The initiative focuses on promoting local artisans, women entrepreneurs, and positioning Agra as a leading sourcing destination, employment generator, and export powerhouse.

The development comes as India and New Zealand prepare to sign their long-awaited Free Trade Agreement (FTA), a landmark deal expected to open new opportunities for farmers, MSMEs, businesses, skilled professionals, and women-led enterprises across both nations.

Todd McClay reaffirmed that India remains a strategic priority for New Zealand and encouraged businesses to actively explore joint ventures and investment opportunities in the country.

Aligned with the vision of Narendra Modi, the India–New Zealand FTA is being positioned as a gateway to a deeper, long-term, and people-centric partnership between the two countries.
