Election Controversy in Bengal: Congress Leader Adhir Targets TMC Over Voting Process

Amid an escalating political face-off in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress has approached the Supreme Court of India over the appointment of counting supervisors by the Election Commission of India.

Reacting to the development, senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury launched a sharp attack on the ruling party, questioning its stance and raising concerns over the electoral process in the state.

Chowdhury stated that while “anyone can approach the Supreme Court,” it does not suit the ruling party to raise issues of religion. He further alleged that in several elections—from panchayat to municipal levels—opposition candidates often face obstacles in filing nominations.

He claimed that local administration and ruling party workers have, in the past, prevented opposition participation, even alleging that some winners were not issued certificates after victory.

However, the Congress leader made a notable observation regarding the recent electoral process. He acknowledged that the presence of central forces enabled ordinary citizens to vote without fear, marking a contrast from previous experiences.

Clarifying his stance, Chowdhury added that his remarks should not be interpreted as support for either the BJP or the Election Commission, emphasizing that the issue of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) remains separate.

The remarks come at a time when political tensions in West Bengal remain high, with multiple parties questioning the conduct and fairness of elections, even as institutions continue to oversee the process.
