ECI Deploys 165 Additional Counting Observers, 77 Police Observers to Ensure Smooth Bengal Election Counting 2026

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has intensified its oversight measures for the ongoing General Election to the Legislative Assembly of West Bengal, 2026, by deploying a significant number of additional officials to ensure a transparent and secure counting process.

A total of 165 Additional Counting Observers have been appointed to support the existing Counting Observers across various counting centres in the state. These officials are tasked with closely monitoring the counting procedures, ensuring adherence to electoral guidelines, and maintaining transparency throughout the process.

In addition, the ECI has deployed 77 Police Observers to strengthen security arrangements and oversee law and order in and around the counting centres. Their role will be crucial in preventing any untoward incidents and ensuring a peaceful environment during the counting of votes.

The move comes as part of the Commission’s broader strategy to uphold the integrity of the electoral process in one of India’s most politically significant states. With heightened vigilance and administrative reinforcement, the ECI aims to ensure that the counting process remains smooth, fair, and free from disruptions.
