Himanta Biswa Sarma Takes Oath as Assam Chief Minister for Second Consecutive Term

Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Assam for a second consecutive term on Tuesday, marking the formation of the third successive NDA government in the state.

Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office to Sarma during a grand ceremony held at the Veterinary Ground in the Khanapara area of Guwahati.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Sarbananda Sonowal and Pabitra Margherita. Several chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from BJP-ruled states also attended the event.

The NDA secured a historic mandate in the 126-member Assam Assembly by winning 102 seats, including 82 seats won by the BJP. Alliance partners Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland Peoples’ Front secured 10 seats each.

Family members of Himanta Biswa Sarma, including his mother Mrinalini Devi, wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, son Nandil Biswa Sarma and daughter Sukanya Sarma, were also present during the swearing-in ceremony.

The oath-taking ceremony highlighted the BJP-led NDA’s continued dominance in Assam politics as the alliance returned to power for a third straight term.
