Veteran actor Rajinikanth addressed the media at his residence in Poes Garden, Chennai, clarifying his stand amid criticism surrounding his political associations and recent public interactions after the Tamil Nadu elections.
Speaking at the press conference, Rajinikanth said he felt compelled to respond to ongoing criticism, stating that silence could allow misconceptions to become accepted as truth.
He said, “I am holding this press meet because many criticisms are being made about me in connection with the election. If I do not respond to them, they will become accepted as the truth.”
The veteran actor addressed criticism over his meeting with M. K. Stalin after the election results and emphasized that their relationship extends beyond political boundaries.
Rajinikanth stated, “Our friendship is beyond politics. I felt saddened that MK Stalin was defeated in Kulathur. Rajini is not a cheap or low-standard person to speak unnecessarily about anything else. As soon as the Chief Minister won, I conveyed my congratulations immediately.”
The actor also made headlines with his remarks regarding Vijay becoming Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Rajinikanth said, “I was extremely shocked when I heard that Vijay had become the Chief Minister. I am not in politics; it has been many days since I stepped away from politics. There is a 28-year age difference between Vijay and me.”
Praising Vijay’s rise in politics, Rajinikanth added that the development brought him happiness rather than jealousy.
“Vijay becoming Chief Minister after defeating two powerful alliances in Tamil Nadu has not made me jealous, but extremely happy,” he stated.
Rajinikanth reiterated that he has distanced himself from active politics and stressed that his statements should not be interpreted beyond the context of friendship and goodwill.
