India’s southwest monsoon is steadily advancing across several regions, according to the latest weather update from India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather department stated that the southwest monsoon has progressed into parts of the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, several areas of the Andaman Sea and Andaman Islands, and has covered the entire Nicobar Islands.
IMD has also indicated that the southwest monsoon is likely to make its onset over Kerala on May 26, marking a crucial phase for India’s agricultural and weather cycle.
The department has further forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, West Bengal, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and parts of South Interior Karnataka during the next 3–4 days.
Authorities have advised residents in rainfall-prone regions to stay updated on local weather alerts as heavy rain may impact transportation, daily activities, and low-lying areas.
