Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off the Bengaluru–Mumbai Express train, marking another major step toward strengthening rail connectivity between the states of Karnataka and Maharashtra.

During the event, the minister also announced that the much-anticipated Bengaluru–Mumbai Vande Bharat Express Sleeper Service will begin operations soon, offering passengers enhanced comfort and faster travel connectivity between the two major cities.

Highlighting infrastructure development under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, Vaishnaw stated that 61 railway stations are currently being redeveloped at an investment of ₹2,160 crore, with nine projects already completed.

Among the major projects, Bengaluru Cantonment railway station is being redeveloped at a cost of ₹485 crore, while Yeshwantpur railway station is undergoing redevelopment worth ₹367 crore. These modernization efforts are aimed at transforming railway stations with improved passenger amenities, upgraded infrastructure, and enhanced travel experiences.

The latest initiatives reinforce the government’s broader vision of strengthening railway infrastructure and improving connectivity across India through modernization and high-speed rail projects.
