Bihar Cabinet Expansion: 32 Ministers Including Nishant Kumar Take Oath in BJP-Led NDA Government

In a significant political development, Bihar witnessed a major cabinet expansion under its first BJP-led government, with 32 leaders taking oath as ministers at a grand ceremony held on Thursday.

The swearing-in took place in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The oath of office was administered by Governor Syed Ata Hasnain. The event was also attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Health Minister J P Nadda, and BJP president Nitin Nabin.

A key highlight of the expansion was the induction of Nishant Kumar, son of JD(U) supremo Nitish Kumar, marking a notable moment in Bihar’s political landscape.

The 32-member council of ministers includes representatives from all five constituents of the NDA in Bihar. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the single largest party in the 243-member Assembly with 89 MLAs, secured 15 मंत्रीial berths in the new cabinet.

The Janata Dal United (JD(U)) is also strongly represented, with a total of 15 ministers. Of these, 13 took oath during Thursday’s ceremony at Gandhi Maidan, while senior leaders had already been sworn in earlier.

Leaders from alliance partners were also inducted, including members of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha, reflecting the coalition’s broad representation.

Several ministers who were part of the previous cabinet formed after the NDA’s return to power in the 2025 Assembly elections have been re-inducted, ensuring continuity in governance.

The expansion underscores the NDA’s attempt to balance political representation across allies while strengthening its administrative framework in Bihar.
