Om Birla Calls for Peace, Justice at BRICS Parliamentary Forum 2026
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday said the true meaning of global peace lies in ensuring security, dignity, justice and a better future for all, as he delivered the valedictory address at the BRICS Parliamentary Forum 2026 in New Delhi.
The two-day 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum was held on October 26 and 27 at Samvidhan Sadan, bringing together parliamentary representatives from BRICS member and partner countries.
‘Future Generations Will Judge Us’
Birla said the responsibility of the present generation extended beyond addressing immediate challenges.
He said future generations would judge today’s leaders by the kind of world created for them — whether it was safe, peaceful and prosperous.
The Speaker stressed that young people across the world expected a future where dignity, justice and security were guaranteed.
BRICS Nations Urged to Respect Sovereignty
Birla called on BRICS countries to work collectively towards a global order in which the sovereignty of every nation is respected and international disputes are resolved peacefully.
He also emphasised equal opportunities for development and stronger international cooperation.
The forum itself focused on people-centric development and parliamentary cooperation, with sessions centred on resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability.
‘Differences Exist, but Commitment Remains Common’
Birla acknowledged that BRICS countries may differ in their views, circumstances and challenges.
He said those differences did not diminish their shared commitment to humanity, peace and prosperity.
According to him, this common purpose remained one of the strongest foundations of BRICS cooperation.
Dialogue More Important Amid Global Instability
Referring to conflicts, instability and economic uncertainty in different parts of the world, Birla said dialogue, trust and cooperation had become more important than ever.
He said the forum had not only discussed present challenges but had also explored new possibilities for cooperation among BRICS countries.
The Lok Sabha Speaker had earlier described the forum as an important platform for strengthening parliamentary partnerships and promoting mutual understanding among nations.
BRICS Parliamentary Forum Concludes in New Delhi
The BRICS Parliamentary Forum 2026 brought together speakers, presiding officers and parliamentary delegations from member and partner countries.
The event focused on strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and building cooperation on development, technology, sustainability and international peace.
Birla said the success of such cooperation would ultimately be measured by whether it improved the lives of people and created a more peaceful and equitable future.
