Union Cabinet Approves Four Major Decisions on Manufacturing, Rural Development and DA-DR Hike
The Union Cabinet has approved four major initiatives aimed at strengthening India's manufacturing sector, promoting rural development and providing financial relief to central government employees and pensioners, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced.
According to Vaishnaw, two of the four decisions focus on boosting domestic manufacturing, generating employment and strengthening the overall economy. These include a programme to promote container manufacturing and a scheme for sports goods manufacturing.
Four Key Decisions Announced by the Union Cabinet
1. Container Manufacturing Programme
The Cabinet approved a programme for container manufacturing to strengthen India's manufacturing capabilities. The initiative is expected to support domestic production and create employment opportunities.
2. Sports Goods Manufacturing Scheme
The second manufacturing-related decision concerns a scheme to promote sports goods manufacturing in India. The initiative aims to encourage domestic production, support employment generation and contribute to the growth of the manufacturing ecosystem.
4. Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief Hike
The fourth decision provides a festive benefit for central government employees and pensioners through an increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR).
Vaishnaw described the decision as a Diwali gift from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to approximately 48 lakh central government employees and 68 lakh pensioners.
The DA increase applies to eligible serving employees, while the corresponding DR increase benefits eligible pensioners. These payments help offset the impact of inflation on salaries and pensions.
Focus on Manufacturing, Rural Development and Welfare
Summarising the decisions, Vaishnaw said the four initiatives reflect the Cabinet's focus on strengthening domestic manufacturing, creating employment opportunities, supporting development based on local needs and extending financial benefits to government employees and pensioners.
The announcements cover industrial growth, rural capacity building and employee and pensioner welfare under the four decisions taken at the Cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister.
