Munoz Heroics Earn Colombia Round of 32 Berth
Colombia secured their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over DR Congo at Guadalajara Stadium, making it two wins from two in Group K.
The South Americans dominated much of the contest but were repeatedly denied by DR Congo goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi, who produced a series of outstanding saves. Colombia threatened early through Jhon
Arias and Daniel Munoz, while James Rodriguez, Luis Diaz, and Gustavo Puerta also tested the resilient shot-stopper.
DR Congo's best first-half opportunity came when Arthur Masuaku delivered a dangerous cross that narrowly missed Yoane Wissa, who was inches away from connecting in front of goal.
Colombia continued to push after the break, with Mpasi once again frustrating Luis Diaz and Arias. However, the breakthrough finally arrived when Daniel Munoz capitalized on intelligent hold-up play from substitute Jhon Cordoba, firing home a deflected effort to break the deadlock.
Diaz thought he had added to Colombia's advantage on two occasions, but both goals were ruled out for offside. Despite late pressure from DR Congo, Colombia held firm to secure all three points and guarantee a top-two finish in Group K ahead of their clash with Portugal.

Munoz was named Player of the Match for his match-winning display.
After the game, Colombia head coach Nestor Lorenzo praised his players' determination and attacking philosophy.
"I want to thank the team for all their effort. Against teams like this, you have to find the spaces between the lines. We're very happy—we're a team that takes the initiative, and we never give up on that approach. Thanks to everyone who came out to support us," Lorenzo said.
While Colombia advance to the knockout stage, DR Congo still retain a chance of qualification and must defeat Uzbekistan in their final group match while hoping other results go in their favor.
