CWG 2030 Ahmedabad to Feature 17 Sports Programme
CWG 2030 in Ahmedabad to expand to 17 sports
The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has announced that the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad will feature a total of 17 sports, expanding from the 2026 Glasgow edition that would have only 10 disciplines.
Commonwealth Sport CEO Katie Sadleir confirmed the roster size and unveiled a sustainable new blueprint for multi-sport events.
“We will be going back up to a programme of 17 sports in Ahmedabad,” Sadleir said in a virtual media briefing.
Escalating costs had forced Victoria, Australia, to pull out of hosting duties in 2023, and she said the new model guarantees a 60% reduction in staging costs compared to previous traditional iterations.
The proposed programme comprises athletics, aquatics, badminton, boxing, cricket, cycling, gymnastics, hockey, judo, shooting, squash, table tennis, tennis, weightlifting, wrestling, para-sports and triathlon.
“60 per cent is part of our reimagined reset for the future, and it's definitely where we're pitching Ahmedabad,” Sadleir said.
Organisers say Ahmedabad’s infrastructure is already 85% complete as of May 2026, after being formally awarded hosting rights for the centenary edition of the Games, marking the 100th anniversary of the first Commonwealth Games in 1930.
The event is scheduled for October 2030.
