₹50,000 Financial Assistance Over Three Years
Under the Bhagini Nivedita Scheme, eligible beneficiaries will receive the financial support in three annual instalments.
Students will receive ₹17,000 in the first year, another ₹17,000 in the second year and ₹16,000 in the third year, taking the total assistance to ₹50,000.
First Disbursement to Begin From January 2027
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said the scheme will be implemented from January next year, meaning the first disbursement is expected to begin in January 2027.
The financial support is intended for unmarried women pursuing higher education, providing structured assistance throughout three years of study.
Focus on Women’s Higher Education
The Bhagini Nivedita Scheme forms part of the state government’s broader measures aimed at supporting women and students.
Adhikari had earlier said that girls pursuing undergraduate courses after completing higher secondary education would receive ₹50,000 over three years in the ₹17,000, ₹17,000 and ₹16,000 structure.
The newly approved scheme formalises that assistance and is expected to offer additional financial support to eligible students pursuing college education.
Scheme Approved by West Bengal Cabinet
The scheme was approved alongside several other decisions announced by the West Bengal government, including recruitment to 14,454 government posts and increases in certain allowances and remuneration.
With the Bhagini Nivedita Scheme, eligible unmarried women students will receive sustained financial assistance over three years, with the initiative placing higher education and women’s empowerment at its core.
