East Bengal FC players celebrate after beating Mohun Bagan 4-1 in the Durand Cup 2026 final at Salt Lake Stadium

East Bengal FC produced a sensational performance at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangana, popularly known as Salt Lake Stadium, defeating arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant 4-1 in the Durand Cup 2026 final.

The emphatic victory saw the Red and Gold Brigade lift the Durand Cup for the 17th time, drawing level with Mohun Bagan's record tally and becoming joint-most successful winners in the history of Asia's oldest football tournament.

The triumph also brought an end to East Bengal's 22-year wait for the prestigious trophy. Their previous Durand Cup success came in 2004.

East Bengal Strike Three Times in 22 Minutes

East Bengal, under head coach Antonio López Habas, adopted a disciplined defensive low block and looked to exploit Mohun Bagan on the counter-attack.

The strategy paid immediate dividends.

10' — East Bengal 1-0 Mohun Bagan: Bipin Singh opened the scoring with a left-footed finish after a dangerous attack down the wing.

12' — East Bengal 2-0 Mohun Bagan: Just two minutes later, Edmund Lalrindika doubled East Bengal's advantage, catching the Mariners' defence off guard.

22' — East Bengal 3-0 Mohun Bagan: Lalrindika struck again with an impressive solo effort to put East Bengal firmly in control.

Mohun Bagan managed to reduce the deficit in the 33rd minute when Manvir Singh found the net after the hydration break, finishing on his weaker foot to make it 3-1.

However, East Bengal had the final say before the interval.

44' — East Bengal 4-1 Mohun Bagan: Lalrindika completed his first-half hat-trick just before half-time, restoring East Bengal's three-goal advantage and effectively putting the final beyond Mohun Bagan's reach.

Defensive Masterclass Seals Historic Victory

Mohun Bagan dominated possession after the break and finished the match with 66% possession and 19 shots, but East Bengal's defensive organisation remained resolute.
The Red and Gold defence kept the Mariners scoreless throughout the second half, protecting their 4-1 advantage until the final whistle.

The victory not only delivers a historic Durand Cup triumph for East Bengal but also adds another memorable chapter to one of Indian football's fiercest rivalries.

The 135th IndianOil Durand Cup also celebrated its standout individual performers, with East Bengal’s Edmund Lalrindika claiming the Golden Ball, NorthEast United’s Alaaeddine Ajaraie winning the Golden Boot, and Mohun Bagan’s Vishal Kaith taking home the Golden Glove—honouring the tournament’s finest all-round performer, top scorer and goalkeeper respectively.
