The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heat wave to severe heat wave conditions over parts of western and central India over the next two days, while several northeastern and southern states are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall.
According to the latest weather bulletin, West Madhya Pradesh and West Rajasthan are likely to face intense heat wave conditions for the next 48 hours. Heat wave conditions are also expected over East Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra tomorrow, with temperatures likely to remain significantly above normal levels.
At the same time, the weather agency has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya tomorrow due to strong moisture incursion and favourable atmospheric conditions.
IMD further stated that heavy rainfall activity is also likely over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Kerala, Mahe, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during the next three days.
Several regions including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Odisha, West Bengal and northeastern states are expected to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning tomorrow. Thundersquall conditions are also likely over Jharkhand, Coastal Karnataka and North Interior Karnataka during the next two days.
The IMD added that conditions are gradually becoming favourable for the advance of the southwest monsoon over parts of the south Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea and Andaman & Nicobar Islands around Saturday, indicating the possible early progress of the monsoon system.
Meanwhile, the national capital Delhi experienced light rainfall along with gusty winds this evening, bringing temporary relief from the prevailing heat.
