Iran Warns Against Military Presence Near Strait of Hormuz, Vows “Severe Response” for Ceasefire Violations
The Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Mumbai has issued a strong statement regarding maritime activity near the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, warning that any approach by military vessels will be treated as a violation of the existing ceasefire. Iran Warns Against Military Presence Near Strait of Hormuz, Vows “Severe Response” for Ceasefire Violations According to the statement, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy clarified that the Strait remains open and operational for civilian and commercial shipping under what it described as “smart management.” The Iranian authorities emphasized that safe navigation for non-military vessels continues uninterrupted. However, the IRGC Navy firmly cautioned that any military vessel attempting to enter or approach the Strait—“under any pretext”—will be considered a breach of the ceasefire agreement. The statement further warned that such actions would invite a “firm and severe response.” The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit chokepoint, has long been at the center of geopolitical tensions. Iran’s latest remarks come amid heightened regional sensitivities, underscoring its position on maintaining maritime security while deterring perceived provocations. Iran reiterated its commitment to ensuring the security of navigation but stressed that it will not tolerate any actions it deems provocative or escalatory.
