Kalyan Banerjee Alleges BJP Behind TMC Defections
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of deliberately engineering defections and staggering Rajya Sabha resignations to increase its strength in both Houses of Parliament.
Speaking to the media, Banerjee claimed that three Rajya Sabha members resigned earlier while Koel Mallick's resignation was delayed to prevent simultaneous bypolls. According to him, this strategy enabled the BJP to gain a political advantage in the Upper House. He also alleged that Koel Mallick had met senior BJP leader Bhupendra Yadav and would soon join the BJP.
Banerjee said that while every individual has the right to choose their political future, the growing number of defections from the TMC over the past two months has damaged West Bengal's long-standing political culture and traditions.
He further alleged that around 60 MLAs who left the TMC are effectively functioning as Suvendu Adhikari's "B-team." Banerjee added that the people of West Bengal would ultimately decide whether these political developments are acceptable and deliver their verdict through the democratic process.
