Rinku Singh & Sunil Narine Shine as KKR Edge LSG in Thrilling Super Over Clash
In what will arguably be remembered as the most dramatic game of the IPL
2026 season so far, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pulled off a heist
at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, defeating the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)
in a high-octane Super Over. The Rescue Act: Rinku Singh Stands Tall
Opting to bat first, KKR found themselves in deep waters. The LSG
bowling attack, led by a fiery Mohsin Khan, ripped through the KKR top
order. Mohsin’s career-best figures of 5/23 left the visitors reeling at
93/7 by the 15th over.
However, Rinku Singh—the man for the big occasion—refused to back down. Smashing an unbeaten 83 off just 51 balls, Rinku single-handedly dragged KKR to a competitive 155/7. The highlight was the 20th over, where he plundered 26 runs, turning the momentum back in Kolkata’s favor.
The Chase: Shami’s Last-Ball Heroics KKR vs LSG
LSG’s response was steady but lacked the explosive pace needed for a sub-160 chase. Rishabh Pant anchored the innings with a patient 42, but KKR’s spinners, led by Varun Chakaravarthy, kept the pressure high.
Needing 12 runs off the final over bowled by Kartik Tyagi, the game came down to the wire. With 6 needed off the very last ball, veteran Mohammad Shami cleared the boundary with a sensational six, tying the scores at 155 and forcing the first Super Over of the 2026 season.
The Super Over: Narine’s Masterclass
KKR turned to the legendary Sunil Narine for the tie-breaker, and he did not disappoint. Narine delivered a masterclass in defensive bowling, dismissing both Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram while conceding a mere 1 run.
