In a politically charged statement ahead of the West Bengal elections, senior Madan Mitra likened the ongoing electoral battle to the epic Mahabharata, describing it as a historic and intense contest unlike any seen since Independence.
Speaking during a late-night door-to-door campaign in North 24 Parganas, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate drew a symbolic comparison between political parties and characters from the epic.
“This election is unlike anything seen in Bengal since Independence; it is like a ‘Mahabharat’, a great battle. TMC is like the Pandavas, while CPM and BJP together are like the Kauravas,” Mitra said.
Highlighting the enthusiasm among voters, Mitra claimed that public engagement in the campaign has been unprecedented.
“I have seen at least 20 elections, but never such enthusiasm and happiness among people. Even late at night, people are out, smiling and chanting ‘Jai Bangla’,” he added.
The TMC leader detailed the scale and intensity of campaigning efforts, stating that party workers are reaching voters through multiple modes.
“We are campaigning door-to-door, on foot, by jeep, and even by motorbike. Mamata Banerjee has done tremendous work, and people are happy with her. That is why we are confident of victory and expect to win over 250 seats.”
However, Mitra also levelled serious allegations against the opposition, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party, accusing them of electoral malpractice.
“BJP has allegedly removed names of 91 lakh voters and is trying to create disturbances with the help of police and central forces,” he claimed.
He further urged party workers to maintain peace and follow due process in case of any irregularities.
“We have instructed our workers to remain calm and report any such incidents to the police,” Mitra said.
The remarks come as, political tensions escalate in West Bengal, with parties intensifying their campaigns and rhetoric ahead of the crucial polls.
