Marco Rubio Says Ukraine Might Not Exist Today Without US Assistance
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has strongly defended Washington’s role in supporting Ukraine amid its ongoing war with Russia, stating that Ukraine might not exist as a sovereign nation today without American assistance, including support provided during the Trump administration.
“If it were not for the assistance of the United States, including under the Trump administration, there would be no Ukraine right now,” Rubio said, delivering a blunt message about the importance of American aid to the war-torn country.
Rubio praised Ukrainian fighters for demonstrating extraordinary bravery while confronting a significantly larger military force. However, he stressed that US assistance had played a critical role in enabling Ukraine to defend its sovereignty and continue resisting Russian aggression.

His remarks also signalled a more assertive approach by Washington in defending its record of financial and military support for Kyiv. Rubio indicated that the United States would no longer adopt a defensive posture when discussing the billions of dollars provided to Ukraine.
The comments highlight the central role of American assistance in the conflict and underscore the continuing debate over the scale, purpose and future of US support for Ukraine.
