WB Budget 2026: Suvendu Unveils Structural Reset Plan

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday announced an "eight-month" economic blueprint for structural reform through a "three-pronged" initiative to generate 100,000 government jobs.

Speaking to the media following presentation of the West Bengal budget, Adhikari vowed dismantling of "syndicate raj" and "cut-money" systems to improve the state's financial interests while bypassing local bureaucracy and corruption for major investments.

"The previous regime left behind a staggering ₹8 lakh crore debt legacy," Adhikari said referring to the TMC government led by Mamata Banerjee.

Adhikari framed the budget as a, "structural reset," for the state, in which Rs 5000 crore incentives were announced for industries.

“The first area of creation of jobs is the government sector. We have said that one lakh government jobs will be filled in this financial year. The second sector is private investment and those investing above ₹100 crore will need not to take permission from the local level. We have referred to re-examination of urban land ceiling for this sector. The previous government has withdrawn incentives for industries, we have reintroduced incentives and allocated ₹5000 crore for the purpose,” WB CM said after the Budget announcement.

Adhikari said priority is to create an atmosphere conducive for setting up of industries.

“The priority in the Budget is to ensure safety and security of the people of the State along with creating an atmosphere conducive for setting up of industries,” he said.

Provisions were also made of additional 20% DA to state government employees, with Adhikari assuring that state government employees will get Dearness Allowance at par with the central govt employees in the due course.
