Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Samajwadi Party and the Indian National Congress, urging them to apologise for not supporting the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha.
Addressing the issue, the Chief Minister said that if the opposition parties have “moral courage,” they should actively participate in discussions during the special session of the state assembly and admit their failure to back legislation that could have ensured the implementation of the Women’s Reservation Law.
The remarks come amid heightened political exchanges over women’s representation in legislative bodies. The Women’s Reservation Bill, aimed at increasing participation of women in Parliament and state assemblies, has remained a significant point of contention among political parties.
Adityanath’s statement signals a continued push by the ruling leadership to corner opposition parties on their past positions regarding gender representation and legislative reforms.
