Amid the ongoing counting of votes for the West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections, the Kolkata Police has issued a strict directive banning all victory processions, rallies, and public celebrations on May 4, 2026.
The restriction has been imposed to ensure public order, peace, and tranquility across the city as the counting process is expected to continue throughout the day. The order applies uniformly to all political parties and groups without any exception.
Authorities have clarified that any victory procession or celebration can only be organized from May 5, 2026 onwards, and that too after obtaining prior permission from the Officer-in-Charge of the concerned police station. Organisers must strictly follow all rules, guidelines, and conditions laid down in the permission.
The move comes as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incidents during the high-stakes counting day in West Bengal.
