Narendra Modi Celebrates BJP-NDA Surge, Calls India ‘Mother of Democracy’ After Historic Polls

In a powerful and wide-ranging address at the BJP Headquarters in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA’s sweeping electoral success across multiple states, calling the results a reaffirmation of India’s democratic strength and cultural ethos.

Addressing party workers and supporters during the victory celebrations on May 4, 2026, Modi said, “Winning and losing are a natural part of democracy, but the people of these states have shown the world why India is the Mother of Democracy.”

BJP-NDA Gains Momentum Across States

The Prime Minister highlighted victories in key by-elections across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Nagaland, and Tripura, expressing gratitude to voters for their continued trust in the NDA alliance. He also acknowledged the significant win of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar.

He emphasized that BJP-NDA governments are now in power in over 20 states, reinforcing the party’s governance model centered on development and citizen welfare.

Record Voter Turnout & Democratic Strength

Modi praised the historic voter turnout, particularly in West Bengal, which recorded nearly 93% participation—one of the highest in recent history. He also noted strong voter engagement in Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala, with women voters playing a decisive role.

“Democracy is not just a system, it is our culture. Today, not only democracy has won, but our Constitution has also emerged victorious,” he said.

He extended heartfelt congratulations to the Election Commission, security forces, and all personnel involved in conducting peaceful and large-scale elections.

Bengal Verdict Marks ‘New Dawn’

Referring to the political shift in West Bengal, Modi invoked the legacy of Syama Prasad Mukherjee, stating that his vision for a strong Bengal is finally being realized.

“A new chapter has been added to Bengal’s destiny. From today, Bengal is free from fear and filled with the assurance of development,” Modi declared.

He also paid tribute to cultural icons like Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and Sri Aurobindo, marking the symbolic importance of the electoral mandate.

Call for Peaceful Politics

Highlighting the peaceful nature of the elections in Bengal, Modi noted that for the first time, no lives were lost during polling—marking a significant departure from past electoral violence.

He urged all political parties to move beyond revenge politics and focus on development:
“The talk should not be of revenge, but of change. Not of fear, but of the future.”

Women Power & Political Message

The Prime Minister credited women voters for playing a pivotal role in shaping the mandate and criticized opposition parties for allegedly blocking the Women’s Reservation Bill.

He asserted that women across the country have responded strongly through their votes, signaling a shift toward inclusive development and empowerment.

Vision for ‘Viksit Bharat’
Modi concluded by linking the electoral mandate to India’s broader goal of becoming a developed nation, or Viksit Bharat. He stated that despite global challenges, including geopolitical tensions in West Asia, India remains united and resilient.

“People want development, stability, and trust. Today’s India is moving forward with confidence,” he said.
