Jannik Sinner Makes History: First Italian Man in 50 Years to Win Italian Open, Completes ATP Masters Sweep at 24

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has etched his name into tennis history after capturing the 2026 Italian Open title in Rome. The 24-year-old became the first Italian man in 50 years to win the prestigious tournament, ending a drought that dated back to 1976 when Adriano Panatta lifted the trophy.

Sinner’s latest triumph also placed him in an elite category of tennis greatness. With the victory, he became only the second player in ATP history to complete the full set of all nine ATP Masters 1000 titles — a feat often referred to as the “Career Golden Masters.”

The only other player to accomplish the historic achievement was Novak Djokovic, who completed the milestone in 2018 at the age of 31. Sinner, however, reached the landmark at just 24 years old, making him the youngest player ever to achieve the feat.

The Italian star defeated Casper Ruud in the final and continued his dominant season, further cementing his status as one of the most unstoppable forces in world tennis heading toward the Grand Slam season.

With records falling and milestones arriving at an astonishing pace, Sinner’s rise is beginning to draw comparisons with some of the greatest players the sport has ever seen. Tennis may be entering a new era — and Jannik Sinner is leading it.
