Tamil Nadu Polls 2026: Voter Turnout Nears 38% by 11 AM, Tiruppur Leads Participation

Voting across all 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu saw enthusiastic participation on April 23, with 37.56 per cent voter turnout recorded by 11 AM, according to the Election Commission of India.

Nearly two crore voters had exercised their franchise within the first four hours after polling began at 7 AM, reflecting strong electoral momentum across the state.

Among districts, Tiruppur emerged as the top performer with 42.45 per cent turnout, while major urban centers also saw brisk polling. Chennai recorded 35.47 per cent, while Madurai posted 36.22 per cent, Coimbatore saw 38.62 per cent, and Tiruchirappalli registered 38.08 per cent.

In key battleground constituencies, Kolathur, where Chief Minister M. K. Stalin is contesting, recorded 37.06 per cent turnout. Chepauk-Tiruvallikeni, where Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin is in the fray, saw 34.44 per cent voting.

Edappadi registered 39.94 per cent polling, with Edappadi K. Palaniswami contesting from his stronghold. Meanwhile, Tiruchirappalli East, where actor-politician Vijay is contesting as chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, recorded 37.24 per cent turnout.

With steady voter participation and key constituencies drawing attention, Tamil Nadu’s electoral battle is witnessing a strong and competitive start.
