Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a major election rally in Krishnanagar during the West Bengal Assembly elections, claimed that the state has witnessed the least election violence in the last 50 years, calling it a significant moment for democracy.
Praising the role of the Election Commission of India, Modi said the institution had upheld the dignity of democracy and ensured peaceful polling across the state.
In a politically charged remark, the Prime Minister predicted a victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party and said the party would celebrate with ‘jhalmuri’, the iconic Bengali snack. Taking a swipe at the ruling All India Trinamool Congress, he added that while he enjoys jhalmuri, the Trinamool Congress “felt the burn,” intensifying the election rhetoric.
The comments have added fresh momentum to the ongoing electoral battle, with the Prime Minister framing the polls as both a democratic milestone and a political turning point in West Bengal.
