The Government of West Bengal has made the singing of the National Song “Vande Mataram” mandatory during morning assembly prayers in all schools under the School Education Department across the state, with immediate effect.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari shared the update on social media, stating that the directive has been issued “in supersession of all previous orders and practices.”
Under the new directive, all government and government-aided schools under the School Education Department will begin their daily assemblies with the rendition of “Vande Mataram” before the commencement of classes.
The move is being viewed as an initiative to strengthen patriotic values and cultural awareness among students across West Bengal. “Vande Mataram,” composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, played a historic role in India’s freedom movement and holds the status of the National Song of India.
