Abhishek Banerjee Alleges 20-Hour Marathon Questioning by ED and CID, Calls Probe Politically Motivated

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee on Monday claimed that he was subjected to prolonged questioning by central and state investigative agencies, alleging that the repeated summons and interrogations were part of a sustained campaign against him.

Speaking to reporters, Banerjee said, “I am saying this very clearly. As you know, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had sent me summons and I was asked to appear on the 15th and 17th. Yesterday also, for nearly 8–9 hours, the CID questioned me. I went there, and today I reached before around 11 in the morning. It is now around 10 PM, and they have been questioning me for nearly 11 hours.”

The TMC national general secretary highlighted the duration of the questioning, stating that he had fully cooperated with investigators and attended all proceedings as required. Banerjee further alleged that the repeated summons reflected political pressure and an attempt to target opposition leaders.

The remarks come amid ongoing investigations involving multiple agencies. The ED and CID have not yet issued any immediate response to Banerjee’s latest statements.

The development is likely to intensify the political debate between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition TMC, with both sides continuing to trade accusations over the use of investigative agencies in politically sensitive cases.
