Achraf Hakimi to Face Trial in French Rape Case
Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi will stand trial before a criminal jury over rape allegations, a French appeals court in Versailles ruled on Friday.
The Court rejected a final motion from Hakimi's legal team to dismiss the referral, moving the high-profile case out of investigative chambers and into the criminal courts of the Hauts-de-Seine department.
The 27-year-old faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison under French law, if convicted.
No date has been yet fixed for the trial to commence.
In February 2023, a 24-year-old woman reported to police that the right back had sexually assaulted her inside his home in Paris.
