Centre Responds to Concerns Over Agniveers' Future
Since the launch of the Agnipath recruitment scheme, Opposition parties and several stakeholders have repeatedly questioned the long-term career prospects of Agniveers after the completion of their four-year tenure.
Under the existing policy, up to 25% of Agniveers are eligible for permanent induction into the armed forces based on organisational requirements and merit. Questions had been raised regarding employment opportunities for the remaining personnel after they complete their contractual service.
Responding to these concerns, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced a comprehensive recruitment policy for former Agniveers in central paramilitary forces.
50% Reservation in CAPFs and Assam Rifles
According to the government, 50% of Constable and Rifleman vacancies will now be reserved for former Agniveers in the following forces:
Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)
Border Security Force (BSF)
Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)
Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)
Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)
Assam Rifles
The move is expected to create a structured career pathway for thousands of Agniveers completing their tenure under the Agnipath Scheme.

The Ministry of Home Affairs further announced that former Agniveers will receive an upper age limit relaxation of three years while applying for recruitment to the Central Armed Police Forces.
This relaxation is expected to improve their chances of securing employment after completing military service and provide a smoother transition into civilian security roles.

The Centre believes that the new recruitment policy will encourage more young people to join the Agnipath Scheme by addressing concerns regarding post-service employment.
