Ahmedabad Ready to Host Historic Commonwealth Games 2030: Harsh Sanghavi

t the closing ceremony of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi reaffirmed India's commitment to hosting the landmark 2030 Commonwealth Games, declaring that Ahmedabad is ready to welcome athletes from across the Commonwealth.

Representing Ahmedabad, Gujarat and India at the ceremony, Sanghavi described the Glasgow Games as far more than a sporting event.
"It has been a privilege to represent Ahmedabad, Gujarat and India at Glasgow 2026. Over these past two weeks, we have witnessed something truly extraordinary—not simply a competition, but a celebration of human excellence, resilience and the beautiful spirit of sport," he said.

Congratulating athletes from across the Commonwealth, Sanghavi praised their remarkable performances and sportsmanship throughout the Games.

"India is immensely proud of our athletes, and we celebrate with deep admiration the excellence and grace we have witnessed from every corner of the Commonwealth across these Games," he added.

Highlighting the significance of the next edition, Sanghavi noted that the 2030 Commonwealth Games will mark the 100th anniversary of the Commonwealth Games movement.

Calling India's hosting rights a "sacred responsibility," he expressed confidence that Ahmedabad is prepared to stage a world-class event.

"In 2030, the Commonwealth will celebrate its centenary—100 years of bringing the world together through sport—and India has been entrusted to host the historic edition. That is a sacred responsibility we embrace with deep gratitude. Ahmedabad is ready," Sanghavi said.

The ceremonial handover at Glasgow officially marked the beginning of India's journey towards hosting the centenary Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad in 2030, a milestone expected to showcase the country's sporting infrastructure, culture and hospitality on the global stage.
