AIIMS Delhi Launches India’s First Portable Bedside MRI System, Transforming Critical Care Diagnostics

In a major breakthrough for India’s healthcare system, All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi has introduced the country’s first portable bedside Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system, aimed at enhancing diagnostic capabilities for critically ill patients.

The cutting-edge device allows doctors to perform rapid brain imaging directly at the patient’s bedside, particularly benefiting those in intensive care units (ICUs), emergency wards, and neurosurgical care settings.

Unlike conventional MRI machines that require patients to be transported to dedicated imaging suites, the ultra-low-field portable MRI system can be easily wheeled to the patient. This innovation significantly reduces the risks associated with moving critically ill individuals, ensuring faster diagnosis and timely medical intervention.

Medical experts at AIIMS Delhi highlighted that the new system is especially valuable in cases involving neurological emergencies such as stroke, traumatic brain injuries, and post-surgical monitoring. By eliminating logistical delays, the technology is expected to improve patient outcomes and streamline hospital workflows.

The introduction of this portable MRI marks a significant step forward in integrating advanced medical technology into critical care environments in India. It also reinforces AIIMS Delhi’s position as a leader in adopting innovative healthcare solutions.
