Akhilesh Yadav Slams Centre Over FCRA Bill

Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday criticised the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, alleging that the legislation is aimed at suppressing minorities and serving the interests of the government.

Yadav said the government wanted to bring the FCRA Bill “to suppress the minorities” and questioned its stated objectives. His remarks come amid a political debate over the proposed legislation, which is being discussed during Parliament’s Monsoon Session.

The Samajwadi Party leader also targeted the government over infrastructure projects, questioning the quality of construction and maintenance. Referring to waterlogging and potholes on expressways, he asked what the government was achieving through such projects.

Taking a swipe at the government’s functioning, Yadav said, “We can see similarities between the one running the government and the aircraft pilot.”

The FCRA Bill has emerged as a contentious issue in Parliament, with the Opposition raising concerns over its potential impact on organisations receiving foreign contributions. The government, meanwhile, has sought to address objections surrounding the proposed changes.
