Amit Shah Vows Drug-Free Punjab by 2029
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while attending Dussehra celebrations at Daresi Ground in Ludhiana, pledged to rid Punjab of the drug trade by December 31, 2029, and called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into three alleged murder cases involving victims described as sons of Punjab who had lost their lives amid the state's battle against drugs.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion of Vijayadashami, Shah highlighted the significance of Ravana Dahan as a symbol of the victory of good over evil. He said the festival should inspire every individual to eliminate ego, arrogance, greed and other vices from within.
Recalling his early years in Gujarat, Shah said Ludhiana was widely known for its Ravana Dahan celebrations, which attracted attention beyond Punjab.
Amit Shah Seeks CBI Probe into Two More Cases
The Union Home Minister said he had met families from three different areas who had lost their sons amid the menace of drugs. Referring to the investigation into one of the murder cases, Shah said the Punjab Chief Minister had handed it over to the CBI earlier that morning.
https://t.co/XW1NIwk6tr

He urged the state government to transfer the investigations into the other two cases to the central agency as well. Shah added that the BJP intended to approach the court to ensure that the cases were handed over to the CBI, expressing confidence that justice would be delivered.
Shah asserted that the Modi government would pursue those responsible, regardless of their influence or power, once the investigations were under the CBI's jurisdiction.
Pledge to Make Punjab Drug-Free by December 31, 2029
Making a solemn pledge on Vijayadashami, Shah called upon the people to work towards eliminating the drug trade across Punjab by December 31, 2029.
He said the BJP was committed to tackling the drug menace and warned that the party would take action if the Punjab government failed to act.
The Home Minister's remarks placed the fight against drugs, justice for affected families and accountability in alleged criminal cases at the centre of his address at the Dussehra celebrations.
Shah's pledge sets December 31, 2029, as the target date for a drug-free Punjab, while his demand for CBI investigations into the remaining two cases is likely to intensify political debate over the state's response to drug-related crime.
