Asaduddin Owaisi Files Supreme Court Review Petition on Election Commission Decisions
Hyderabad, Telangana: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has said his party has filed a petition and a review petition in the Supreme Court, raising questions about the Election Commission's decision-making process and changes made to statutory enumeration forms.
Speaking in Hyderabad, Owaisi said the petitions were filed through his lawyer, Advocate Nizam Pasha. He said the objective was to seek clarity on whether decisions taken by the Election Commission were unanimous or involved dissent among its members.
Owaisi Questions Election Commission's Decision-Making Process
Owaisi said the Election Commission is legally required to function as a collective body. However, he claimed that it remained unclear whether the decisions in question were taken unanimously or whether any member had expressed a dissenting opinion.
He said the petition seeks to address these concerns and obtain greater clarity regarding the commission's decision-making process.
Review Petition Filed After Earlier Plea Was Dismissed
The AIMIM chief said the party had also filed a review petition because the Supreme Court had previously dismissed its earlier petition.
The latest legal move seeks a review of the earlier outcome, alongside the issues raised in the new petition, according to Owaisi.
Concerns Over Changes to Statutory Enumeration Forms
Owaisi also raised questions about changes made to statutory enumeration forms, saying the party did not have sufficient information to understand the modifications.
He said these concerns, along with the questions surrounding the Election Commission's decisions, had been detailed in the petition submitted to the Supreme Court.
The legal proceedings are aimed at seeking clarity on the matters raised by the AIMIM. The court's consideration of the petitions will determine how these issues proceed legally.
