Asian Games 2026: Narender Berwal Clinches Bronze Medal in Men’s +90kg Boxing Event

Narender Berwal has added another medal to India’s boxing campaign at the Asian Games 2026.
Competing at the Nishio Gymnasium, Narender received a bye in the Round of 16 before producing a dominant quarter-final performance against Thailand’s Adthapong Saengtep. The Indian boxer stopped his opponent before the final bell to secure his place in the semi-finals and guarantee a podium finish.

In the semi-final, Narender faced Kazakhstan’s reigning world champion and world number one, Aibek Oralbay.

Oralbay delivered a strong performance to register a 5-nil unanimous decision victory and advance to the final.

Despite the defeat, Narender was assured of the Bronze Medal, with both losing semi-finalists receiving bronze medals under Asian Games boxing rules.

Oralbay went on to claim the Gold Medal, while China’s Danabieke Bayikewuzi secured Silver.

Narender’s Bronze Medal finish also keeps him in contention as a primary entrant for the 2027 World Boxing Championships, an important qualification pathway towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
