Atar Singh Bhadana Killing: Congress MLA Questions Police Inaction
The Atar Singh Bhadana killing in Rajasthanβs Bharatpur district has triggered political questions over whether authorities acted adequately despite being aware of a long-running dispute over mining and a stone crusher operation.
Former BJP MLA Atar Singh Bhadana died after a violent clash in Bhonda village under Weir police station. Police said Bhadana and his associate were allegedly attacked with sticks and stones during the confrontation.
Jaipur, Rajasthan: On the killing of former BJP MLA Atar Singh Bhadana by villagers over a mining dispute, Congress MLA Harimohan Sharma says, "The police administration was aware of the disputes at the site where mining operations were underway. Atar Singh Bhadana's family had also informed the police about these issues from time to time. The police knew about the disputes and what action needed to be taken. Despite being aware of the situation, the police had the authority to suspend mining operations if the law and order situation warranted it...''

Harimohan Sharma Says Police Knew About Dispute
Speaking in Jaipur, Congress MLA Harimohan Sharma said police and administrative officials were already aware of tensions surrounding the mining site.
He said:
βThe police administration was aware of the disputes at the site where mining operations were underway.β
Sharma further claimed that Bhadanaβs family had repeatedly informed police about problems at the site and argued that authorities knew what preventive steps could have been taken.
Congress MLA Questions Why Mining Was Not Suspended
Sharma said police had the authority to intervene if the situation posed a threat to law and order, including suspending mining-related activity when necessary.
His remarks amount to criticism of the police and administrationβs handling of the dispute rather than a finding that authorities were legally responsible for Bhadanaβs death.
Bhadanaβs wife has separately alleged that the family had repeatedly informed police and the administration about incidents linked to the crusher site but effective action was not taken.
Dispute Had Continued for Around Two Years
The confrontation was linked to a long-running dispute involving Bhadanaβs mining lease, a crusher plant and access to the site.
Residents of Bhonda and Raipur villages had been protesting against the mining operation for around two years. Villagers alleged that mining vehicles were using grazing land and also raised accusations of illegal mining and encroachment.
The crusher had reportedly remained closed for about a year before efforts were made to restart operations.
Clash Turns Fatal
Police said the confrontation broke out after Bhadana went to the crusher site on Sunday evening.
Both Bhadana and his associate Gagan Sharma sustained serious injuries. Bhadana was referred to Jaipurβs SMS Hospital, where he later died, while Sharma was taken for further treatment in Bharatpur.
Reports differ on the precise sequence of events leading to the clash, with villagers and Bhadanaβs side making competing allegations about who initiated the confrontation.
Police Search for Suspects
Police teams have launched searches to identify and arrest those involved in the attack, while additional forces have been deployed in the area to maintain order.
The Atar Singh Bhadana killing has now become both a criminal investigation and a political issue, with questions being raised over whether stronger preventive action could have stopped the long-running mining dispute from escalating into deadly violence.
