Akshay Kumar’s film earns ₹24 crore worldwide, surpasses Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 but falls short of Thamma.

Bhooth Bangla Day 1 Box Office Collection has set the tone for a promising run at the ticket window, as Akshay Kumar returns to the comedy-horror genre alongside filmmaker Priyadarshan. The film has registered a strong opening worldwide, earning ₹24 crore on its first day, positioning itself among the better openers in the horror-comedy space.

The film hit theatres on April 17, with paid previews held the night before. During these previews, Bhooth Bangla managed to collect ₹3.50 crore net in India, giving it an early boost. On its official release day, the movie continued its momentum by earning ₹12.25 crore net domestically. This took its total Day 1 India net collection to ₹15.75 crore, while the gross domestic figure stood at ₹18.90 crore.

Interestingly, the film’s occupancy trends reflected a gradual rise in audience interest. Morning shows recorded a modest 10% occupancy, but as the day progressed and positive word of mouth spread, footfall increased significantly. By the night shows, occupancy had crossed 30%, indicating strong audience reception and setting the stage for a potential jump over the weekend.

On the international front, the film performed decently, earning over $550K overseas. While not a massive figure, it contributed to pushing the global total to ₹24 crore, reinforcing the film’s solid start. Trade analysts believe that if the current momentum continues, Bhooth Bangla could see substantial growth in the coming days, especially during the weekend.

When placed within the context of Bollywood’s growing horror-comedy genre, Bhooth Bangla holds a respectable position. The genre has witnessed significant success in recent years, thanks to films like Stree and the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise. Notably, Bhooth Bangla has managed to surpass the opening-day performance of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, which had collected ₹21 crore worldwide on its first day in 2022.

However, the film still trails behind some of the biggest openers in the genre. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 had recorded an impressive ₹53 crore opening, while Thamma opened at ₹31 crore. The benchmark, however, remains Stree 2, which delivered a massive ₹80 crore opening, setting a new standard for horror-comedy films in India.

Directed by Priyadarshan, Bhooth Bangla marks his return to Hindi cinema after a gap of five years. The film also reunites him with Akshay Kumar after 14 years, a collaboration that has previously delivered several memorable hits. This reunion has been one of the key attractions for audiences, adding a layer of nostalgia to the film’s appeal.

The film features a strong ensemble cast, including Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, and Mithila Palkar. Their performances, combined with Priyadarshan’s signature storytelling style, have contributed to the film’s positive reception among audiences.

Overall, the Bhooth Bangla Day 1 Box Office Collection reflects a solid start with strong growth potential. While it may not have broken records, it has successfully carved a place among notable horror-comedy openers. With positive word of mouth and weekend momentum building, all eyes are now on how the film performs in the coming days.
