In a historic political moment, C. Joseph Vijay was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in a grand ceremony held in Chennai. Marking the beginning of a transformative political chapter, Vijay outlined an ambitious vision focused on transparency, social justice, and people-centric governance.
A Mandate for Change
Addressing the public in his first speech as Chief Minister, Vijay expressed deep gratitude to alliance partners including Congress, VCK, and Left parties for supporting his party in forming the government. He called the moment a “new beginning” and pledged to usher in a governance model rooted in secularism and social justice.
“This is a new era. A real, secular, social justice-driven governance starts now,” he declared.
No Power Centres, Strong Leadership
In a firm assertion of authority, Vijay emphasized that there would be no parallel power structures within his administration.
“There will not be any power centres other than me. I will be the only centre of power,” he stated.
Key Announcements & First Decisions
Immediately after assuming office, CM Vijay signed significant policy files, indicating swift action on key electoral promises:
Formation of a special force for women’s safety
Approval of 200 units of free electricity for domestic consumers
He also assured strict action against drug-related activities and made a strong commitment against corruption:
“I will not touch a single paisa of the people.”
Transparency & Financial Accountability
Highlighting the state’s financial challenges, Vijay announced plans to release a white paper on Tamil Nadu’s economy. He alleged that the previous Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government left behind a debt burden of over ₹10 lakh crore.
“We will present a white paper and ensure complete transparency in governance,” he said.
A Personal Journey to Power
Reflecting on his journey, Vijay spoke emotionally about rising from humble beginnings:
“People have made me, a poor Assistant Director’s son with cinema aspirations, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. I am speechless.”
He reiterated that he does not come from any political dynasty and promised not to mislead people with false assurances.
Call for Patience
The newly sworn-in Chief Minister urged citizens to give his government reasonable time to deliver results, emphasizing performance-driven governance over rhetoric.
