DRDO Successfully Tests Pralay Missile Off Odisha Coast
India has achieved another significant milestone in strengthening its indigenous defence capabilities, with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducting a user evaluation trial of the Pralay quasi-ballistic missile off the Odisha coast.
Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted the flight-test of the indigenously developed quasi-ballistic missile ‘Pralay’ from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island, off the coast of Odisha on November 5, 2026. The missile has been indigenously developed by Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, along with other DRDO laboratories, while Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), one of its Development-cum-Production Partners, has produced the system.

The trial was conducted from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur, Odisha. The missile successfully met all the designated mission objectives, with its performance validated by tracking instruments and range sensors deployed during the test.
The Pralay missile is an indigenously developed, short-range, surface-to-surface quasi-ballistic missile designed to strike enemy targets with high precision. With an operational range of up to 500 kilometres, the missile is capable of executing mid-course manoeuvres, making it difficult for adversaries to predict its trajectory and intercept it.
The successful evaluation trial marks an important step towards the missile system's induction into the Indian Armed Forces. It follows earlier developmental and evaluation trials aimed at establishing the missile's operational reliability and combat effectiveness.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO scientists, engineers and the industry partners involved in the successful test. He described the achievement as a significant milestone in strengthening India's indigenous defence capabilities and advancing the country's pursuit of self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
The successful trial reinforces India's commitment to developing advanced indigenous missile systems and enhancing its strategic deterrence capabilities.
With the Pralay missile moving closer to induction, the achievement represents another major step towards strengthening India's defence preparedness under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
